QBar and QCafe

Opening times: 10:30am to 5:00pm every week day

Our delicious coffee shop (at the bottom of EE staircase) offers a selection of cheap hot and cold drinks and savoury and sweet snacks, including paninis, wraps, baguettes, doughnuts, brownies and cookies. Payments can be made in cash or via UPay on camcards.

Many students choose the QCafe as a relaxed place of work, or to catch up with friends during the day

Anything you want to see in the coffee shop? Tell our staff and we’ll see what we can do!

A perfect place to chill out during the day, have a quick lunch, do yesterday’s essays, or catch up with friends. Enjoy our fresh batch of national rags every morning – from The Times to the Guardian.

As part of the Fairtrade campaign when you buy 6 coffees, the 7th is free!

In order to combat the excessive use of single-use plastics, there will be a fixed charge for coffee cups. At the time of writing, this was 25 pence (50 pence for Tupperware). Please bring your own reusable mug. There are Queens’ re-usable mugs available for purchase in the Buttery

Opening times:
6:00pm – 11pm Sunday – Thursday
6:00pm – 11:30pm Friday and Saturday

QBar is one of the best college bars in Cambridge and can be found at the bottom of EE staircase in Cripps Court. A variety of quality lagers, ciders, wines, ales on tap, bar snacks, spirits and soft drinks are available at a low cost. Cocktails are also offered, including the “Queens’ Green”.

Additionally, QBar offers bar food from 7-9:30pm every night. If you missed buttery, don’t fancy cooking, or want a treat, then come down for pizzas, burgers, nachos, curries and desserts!

All payments can be made via cash or UPay.

There are two pool tables in the bar, which currently cost 50p per play (although the JCR hope to have switched to free-to-play from the 2019-2020 academic year). Ask the bar staff if the cue ball is not there.

There is a big screen in the bar that is able to show current TV shows. Major sports fixtures, Eurovision and Love Island have all been shown in the past year. JCR open meetings and hustings are held in the bar’s conservatory area.

Queens’ sports and societies are encouraged to order framed team photos with the college crest and give them to the bar staff to hang on the walls. This can be bought by students or allocated during the early Michaelmas rounds of society funding applications to the College Union. JET Photographic is the usual supplier.

The 2019-2020 JCR Committee are keen to make improvements to bar facilities and host new events. New decor, a football table, subsidised pool and regular bar quizzes are all in the works. This page will be updated when these plans come into fruition. Contact Tomos Wood with any questions at tomos.wood@qjcr.org.uk

If you would like to host an event at the bar, you can email the bar team at bar@queens.cam.ac.uk or get in touch with QEnts’s nominated bar rep. For suggested bar improvements, the JCR Vice-President Internal (jcr-vp-internal@queens.ac.uk) may also be a good point of contact.

On a more uncharacteristically sober note:
Queens’ is a sensible college; QJCR encourages sensible drinking. Please know your limits, and if you make any mess (of any kind), please clear it up after you. Also, please remember that it is prohibited to bring your own alcohol into the bar, which is silly anyway considering how cheap the bar drinks are. If you are found to have done so, you will be asked to hand it in to be returned to you later, but if you refuse to do so you will be “Dean-ed”!

See you in the bar soon!
