Costs

Key College Expenditure

  • Food – £3.60 for a main meal including two sides in Queens’ buttery; £3.10 for Queens’ Six (six cooked breakfast items) at breakfast/brunch; £12.95 for formal hall.
  • Accommodation – Charges are made quarterly (each term functions as one quarter, with the option to remain over summer given in around April). See table below for costs.
  • Energy bills – Consist of gas and electricity charges, added to the following term’s bill. The vast majority of this is gas, with electricity generally being under £5/term. Costs can vary significantly year-on-year due to market fluctuations (and are metered by staircase) but in 2024–25, for a typical Cripps room, the combined gas and electricity charges, rounded to the nearest £5, were: Michaelmas £120; Lent £145; Easter £65.
  • Laundry, housekeeping, gym, basic contents insurance – Provided by College free of charge (bring laundry tablets but no need to bring washing up equipment).
  • One-off expenses – Bike (allow ~£100); gown (~£40); caution money (a deposit of £300 to College, reimbursed upon graduation); course-specific resources (varies, but try to use College subject grants – see below).
